Wtf why won’t they pick me for jury duty?!

I swear I’m like one of eight people in the country that actually wants to get selected for jury duty. And it never, happens.

The farthest that I’ve gotten was to sit in a big room and read my book for an hour before they said that I could go home. Everyone was in their complaining, wanting to leave, and here I was with my fingers crossed hoping that they allow me to say.

I recognize it as my civic duty to be part of the judicial process. Somebody’s life and future could depend on my ability to recognize the nuances of their particular situation. And then there’s the experience of it all, getting to watch the judicial process in action and in real action; not the televised drama we see during celebrity trials or the scripted act in film.

And I was hopeful that today was my chance. And it’s not. Thanks, today. 😕

Cloudchella and Me

So, for the past month my life was chaos in the best way possible. Three events have been thoroughly engulfing my time: the ongoing Silver Spanner deck-building Tournament series, BABSCon 2017, and Coachella. Two of these are clearly MLP CCG related, and I will talk about them in separate posts.

Coachella, for those not aware, is the largest music and arts festival in Northern California (my brothers and I have been attending for years). Any Brony will remember a moment in the season 7 Premier when Twilight Sparkle was fantasizing a life where Starlight Glimmer lives with Ember and the dragons. At one point, one of the dragons comments on going to ‘Cloudchella’. I suspect that there is not a huge overlap between the Coachella-attending and Brony populations, because every Internet search that I’ve conducted looking for “cloudchella’ has referenced smoking and 4/20 culture. Never the less, I had to hit the polo fields with my lucky Pinkie chain and my car in full Cloudsdale mode. It was an amazing time, and I’d recommend it to anypony who loves partying.

Spotify Fail!

So I was drawing the other night and wanted some uplifting melody for inspiration. Naturally, I selected one of those automatic playlists generated by #Spotify featuring My Little Pony music. As you know, those generated playlists look for related music to try and expand your music horizons. Well, after a few of the usual Brony classics there comes this:

So seriously, for just once I’d like to walk into a cleaners and find that it’s not run by Korean people. I just tried a new place out, only to discover that the owner was Korean. She was very pleasant, I’m sure she’ll do a great job, and I have nothing against Korean entrepreneurs, it’s just that it would be nice to see someone of a different ethnicity in that role to help break the stereotype. 😠

My First Broadcast with CiM

So, recently I was asked to join Commentary is Magic as a backup member, or junior woodchuck member, or whatever status they give to people who aren’t one of the founding four. The coolest part about it, aside from the plain and simple honor, is that I get to join in on broadcasts and special events.

This past Sunday, I was part of the crew that reviewed the first batch of spoiled MLP CCG cards from the upcoming Defenders of Equestria set (aka Set 8). It was a lot of fun. I think it went well considering that it was a first outing for me. I’ve done acting, been on stage, and performed improv comedy, so this wasn’t entirely out of my comfort zone. I haven’t listened to the broadcast yet, but apparently there is some talking-over-others issues, something that’s easy to avoid on stage but a lot harder when you are doing a group stream with people’s whose faces you can’t see.

More streams are on the way. As more cards are spoiled, CiM will be discussing thoughts and general reactions.

My OC design

So, I’ve been drawing again and finally getting. Around to creating the visual for my MLP OC. I’ve had the backstory and general design for a while now, so putting it to paper is both exciting and disappointing at the same time. On the one hoof, I’m finally getting this done, so that’s great. On the other, I now have to face the reality that my OC doesn’t look on paper like he does in my head. Still, I like how he looks so far, and I think things will get even better once I get the colors in.

Maybe my inspiration for finally creating the visual for this character comes from the finale of Season 6, which I just watched for the first time. Maybe it’s the impending release of Set 8 of the CCG. Or maybe it’s other things. I dunno. Here’s what I have so far.

I am getting my real blog back

I barely use this blog anymore, and I think it’s because I know it’s only temporary, and all of the context I post here is going to become irrelevant once my main site is reinstated.

That being said, it’s time to get my main site back!! I’ve been paying for the domain and webspace since my blog was accidentally deleted, so I think it’s time to get it all back.

Have a new phone; expect more frequent updates

Never buy a Windows Phone. Even if you don’t mind a limited App Store (which, to be honest was not a major problem), you will get lost using the terrible map/navigation app. Add to that a terrible interface when trying to call or text infrequently used contacts, and the phone is not worth the effort.

After dropping my Windows phone many times, the screen cracked and developed “ghost taps”, which is basically the same thing as having an invisible person randomly tapping your phone screen just to fuck with you. Seriously. Pissed me the hell off, and I don’t get pissed very easily.

So I picked up an iPhone SE because price point and ecosystem with my Mac Computers and iPad etc. Also, I don’t care if a new phone may be announced next week; they’re never for sale right away and I like this one.

The point of this being that will be posting and uploading more. Go me.

Sex and evolution

I was “noticing people” (that’s the polite way of saying it), and wondering why glutes are intimate body parts. A more crass way of putting that: Why are asses arousing? Like, I’m serious. It makes sense from an evolutionary perspective why genitalia and other body regions, such as a specific hip -to-waist ratio, would cause sexism arousal: Those were indications of a fertile and willing reproductive partner. But the butt? As far as I know, there’s no physiological correlate associated with a healthy ass and healthy kids.

Yet, men (and many women) love looking at Jennifer Lopez. Someone explain this to me.
